08:30 REGISTRATION & NETWORKING REFRESHMENTS
09:00 WELCOME NICK KIRBY, Editor-in-Chief, BL magazine
09:10 PANEL – THE NEW FACE OF THE PRIVATE CLIENT
There’s probably no such thing as an ‘average’ private client any more, if there ever was. Jersey is now doing business with HNWIs and families from a broad range of geographies, all of who have varied requirements/concerns either because of the region they are from, or because of cultural/social perspectives. With the very nature of ‘family’ and the private client changing day-by-day, how must Jersey adapt and innovate in order to stay relevant in this new world?
SALLY EDWARDS, Global Head, Private Client and Trusts, Ogier

JULIE FAIRCLOUGH, Director, ZEDRA, Jersey

SIMON FOSTER, Chief Financial Officer, TY Danjuma Family Office

CATHERINE GRUM, Head of Family Office Services, KPMG, London

REGINALD MILLS, Head of Corporate Finance Partnership EMEA, Deutsche Bank

10:00 ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENTS: BALANCING RISK AND RETURN
With equities and bonds not necessarily delivering the returns that clients want, just what are the alternative investment options and how can these sit comfortably in a private client portfolio where risk must be balanced with return? While private equity, real estate, and asset classes such as stamps, wine and art might be seen as ‘go-to’ alternatives, is the real story in P2P and crowdfunding/lending?
NAINISH BAPNA, CIO, Veddis

MICHAEL STRACHAN, Managing Director, IAM Advisory

10:30 BREAK
11:00 HIGH-NET-WORTH DIVORCE: FRESH THINKING
High-net-worth divorce may well be a headline-grabbing subject, but it can be incredibly messy for those involved. Some firms are now trying to make structures that are ‘bullet proof’ to divorce. How are practitioners on both sides working to protect their clients/ensure that a fair settlement is achieved? What have we learned from previous cases and what can be put in place before, during and after marriage?
DAVID BENEST, Managing Partner, Benest Corbett Renouf

MILES GEFFIN, Legal Director, Mishcon de Reya

11:30 PANEL – TRUSTS, TAX AND REGULATION: RISING TO THE CHALLENGE
This panel session will examine the highlights in three key areas:
• Trusts. A specific focus on trust law in Jersey. Examining the most significant recent changes and what is due in the coming year, and any case law directly affecting trustees.
• Tax. The new rules on non-doms will be in place, but we will have we learned anything that we weren’t expecting? And what of other topical tax issues that are pending, either domestically or more internationally?
• Regulation. Looking at the current state of play with CRS and other standards, as well as beneficial ownership – both BEPs and local registers.
WENDY MARTIN, Partner, EY

CHRISTOPHER SCHOLEFIELD, Partner, Viberts, Jersey

JUSTIN WOODHOUSE, Tax Partner, PwC

12:15 LUNCH
13:15 PANEL – TECHNOLOGY: THE POWER TO TRANSFORM
We live in a digital age, yet the private client space is seen as rather traditional and slow to adapt to new technology. How can firms address this and make the most effective use of digital tech? What are firms already doing, such as through apps for KYC and CDD, and also in the area of protecting against cybercrime? Firms may be risk averse, but are they taking a risk by not getting to grips with technology? Should they be more entrepreneurial in their outlook? Indeed, exactly how should trust/private client practitioners be using technology?
SAM BRYANS, CEO, PlainSail Technologies

AONGHUS FRASER, Group Chief Technology Officer, C5 Alliance

TONY MORETTA, CEO, Digital Jersey

14:00 PHILANTHROPY: GIVING, REINVENTED
Philanthropy means different things to different people, but is an important issue for many private clients. For some it’s hands off, but for many it is hands on, and there is the growing movement in impact investing. So what are the trends in this area, and how is philanthropy breaking new ground? Furthermore, how small can philanthropy go? It’s not all about massive projects and foundations, what about philanthropy on a smaller scale?
TOM HALL, Director, Head of Philanthropy Services UK, UBS
14:30 PANEL – CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES: WHAT NEXT FOR PRIVATE CLIENTS?
As the world changes, just what sort of challenges and opportunities does that create in the private client space? Where is the competition coming from – is it offshore or onshore? And is it in particular sectors, such as family office or wealth structuring? Where are the biggest opportunities likely to emerge and what does Jersey need to do in order to capitalise on them?
RICHARD CORRIGAN, Chief Officer – Financial Services, Digital and Enterprise, States of Jersey

ASHLEY COX, Managing Director, ZEDRA, Jersey

JOHN HARRIS, Director General, Jersey Financial Services Commission

MATTHEW NORMAN, CIO, Kenjiro Private Office

KELLYANN OZOUF, Partner, Collas Crill

15:15 CLOSING REMARKS NICK KIRBY, Editor-in-Chief, BL magazine
